I Am Not a Designer.

Senior Art Exhibition

“I Am Not a Designer” is an exploration of self-doubt, vulnerability, and the process of overcoming one’s own limiting beliefs. This series of poster, which will eventually manifest as an Instagram page and a book, encapsulates the internal dialogue that often holds me back — phrases that question my abilities and undermine mu confidence. I hope to continue the project after graduation as a continual reminder of who I watn to become and how far I have come. Each poster is a visual manifestation of these self-deprecating thoughts, and through them, I confront and challenge the ver beliefs that have kept me from fully embracing my potential.

The statements of each piece are intentionally crafted to evoke discomfort, as they mirror the hesitations and doubts I’ve often felt in my creative journey. Yet, these statements also serve as a challenge. The deigns are deliberately complex, and in many cases, I created elements that I had no idea how to make, pushing myself to learn, fail, and ultimately succeed. Through this process, I aim to prove to myself — and to the viewer— that these doubts are not only unfounded but can be transformed into opportunities for growth.

The designs themselves mirror the conflicting emotions embedded in the statements. Theres a tension between the text and the visuals, a deliberate contrast between insecurity and ambition, failure and achievement. Each piece represents a moment of creative struggle and, ultimately, a small victory over my own fears and limitations.

This body of work is not just a reflection of self-doubt; it is a testament to resilience and the power of confronting one’s own narrative. The act of creating these posters has been a journey of self-empowerment, and by sharing them, I hop to spark a conversation about the importance of challenging the voices or doubt that we all carry— and proving, in our own ways, that we are capable of far more than we give ourselves credit for.

Through “I Am Not a Designer,” I embrace the paradox of self-doubt and growth, and invite viewers to join me in questing the stories we tell ourselves about who we area and what we can do.
